Great proactive data tool. Customizations lacking.

What differentiates Heap from other similar products?

Heap makes my life a lot easier. I am being asked a ton more questions by our leadership team, and I am able to find the answer in heap immediately or define it within minutes. I love that even when I don't have an event set up, it has all of the past data without having to have the event defined preventively. Heap has a lot of great features that they are always updating and improving. Data governance is really important for our company and Heap makes it very easy to ensure that events are created with a standard naming convention.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The fact that data starts capturing immediately. I save so much time with devs in our sprints not having to proactively build event listeners and custom work. Heap does this all automatically. I can go back to a new feature that was released 3 months ago and see how it's doing, even if I didn't set up an event (not that anyone would wait that long to look!). Funnels are also very easy to use. Super quick to set up and immediately insightful.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It can be hard to define so many events (initial setup). I wish there were some quick ways to define all events within a dropdown. As an example, a 'Sort' dropdown with 12 options, I wish I could click Define Sort, and then have it define the 12 separate events within it. I also wish that the reporting capability was a bit beefier. For example stacked bar charts, area charts, bubble charts, scatter, gauges, etc. We often have to pull a lot of data into redshift, and then do custom visualizations there. The same goes with if there are limitations on how we can bucket or structure the data in the reporting view on Heap.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Get it sooner than later, the second you install it, it begins capturing all of the data on your website and stores it for easy reporting in the future. This will help to solve a lot of questions in your org quickly.

Pros

  • Trustworthy
  • Effective Service
  • Caring
  • Respectful

Easyish to use but really, really, expensive

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Heap from other similar products?

Heap is far more robust than most analytics platforms. However, it's challenging to train people to use it, and the user-friendly features don't always work. If they don't, the platform becomes highly unusable for folks who don't understand analytics at a deep level.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The visual nature of the funnels features makes it easy to relate the workflows to the product without tracking them elsewhere.

What do you dislike most about this product?

When the visual and user-friendly features don't work, it's a major pain in the ass.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Make sure the onboarding is detail and covers what needs to happen when things don't work. It's insanely expensive, so I expect a product that reflects what the organization is paying, which far too often it does not.

Pros

  • Respectful
  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable

Cons

  • Less Effective Service
  • Less Caring
  • Vendor's Interest First

Reliable, easy to use analytics tool!

Likeliness to Recommend

8 /10

What differentiates Heap from other similar products?

The usability - the interface is really easy to navigate and the visualizations make interpreting data very easy, especially as queries get more complicated.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Building out queries is very straightforward and user-friendly. I'm able to navigate the site easily and get the information I need, as someone who is not an analytics pro.

What do you dislike most about this product?

I don't like the categorizations of the different types of analyses in the broader categories. I find it would be easier to pick from a list instead of clicking into one category and finding out what you're looking for isn't in the category

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

It makes a big difference to have a team dedicated to managing heap events and ensuring the events follow a naming convention. The payoff of good organization and management makes a huge difference!

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Enables Productivity
