What differentiates Vonage APIs from other similar products?
Vonage has a Software development kit for the SMS sending. This kit helps improve speed of deliverability. We only used SMS features.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Vonage has many products from SMS/Call management. We only used SMS. The SMS was great when it worked.
What do you dislike most about this product?
But we had big issues trying to get the SMS delivery to be 100%. We always had failures and it took days for the service department to fix. They don't document any design issues you should know. Issues like Carrier line limits, or limits per day, or blocking by the carriers, or SMS sending limits per second, throttling by carriers, Carriers will check for key words in the SMS and if they see them they will block. Vonage ALWAYS pushed to move from Long number to Toll Free to Short Codes. We found that following their recommendation resulted in more issues and our realization that we were the testers.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Use SMS and buy lots of lines because you have to distribute your SMS load over all of the lines. You will be blocked if you exceed 250 chars/day/line. Long numbers work best, ignore what Vonage says(money grab if you listen to them). Long numbers are cheaper and simple and always work. Short Code/Toll free numbers are blocked by some carriers.
Pros
- Reliable
- Enables Productivity
- Saves Time
- Respectful
Cons
- Under Delivered
- Slower Product Innovation
- Commodity Features
