Teleconferencing is great but the UI is unnatural.

Likeliness to Recommend

5 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Teams from other similar products?

It tries to do everything. In addition to teleconferencing, it basically has a built-in OneDrive, overly complicated message / chat UI.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The teleconferencing is great. The screen / audio quality are very good in meetings. Sharing screens works well.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The team messages are like thread-based but individual chats can be created and then it gets confusing because the file storage for an individual chat within a team is not the same as the team-level storage...or something like that. It was confusing. I used to use it every day and it made me do way to many clicks. What differentiates it is its awkwardness. I would love if it were just teleconferencing and simple chat and a more intuitive file-sharing.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Don't use it. Your organization probably already has their own established interfaces and workflows for sharing files on the cloud and working on them. It is better to get separate apps / services that are good at one or two things because that will make your workflow more efficient. For example, Zoom for teleconferencing, Slack for chat and quick file-sharing, and Google Drive, Docs, Slides, etc. are great for sharing documents and collaborating on them remotely. When all of this functionality is combined in one app, it feels clunky; the UI is awkward. You could spend all day organizing the teams and chats with links and integrations.

Pros

  • Unique Features
  • Respectful
  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product

Cons

  • Less Performance Enhancing
  • Less Efficient Service
  • Less Effective Service

Great business communicator!

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Microsoft Teams from other similar products?

Teams being a Microsoft product makes data integration between Teams and other Microsoft products easier.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The display is uniquely colored to suit with working in both a dark and a light environment, making communication in the office easy to see regardless of which environment I am in at the moment.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It is honestly very corporate businessy in functionality. There is little room for light communications in the form of emoticons. The emoticons that are in fact easily accessible are via a selection menu of reactions, but the use of the standard keyboard typed emoticons is not existent.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

As a communicator in the office it is definitely worth it. All the features that are necessary in an office environment are included, though it is a very businessy type of software, so be sure you like the no nonsense type of approach to your communications in the office. As far as ease of use goes, for a Microsoft user this should be rather intuitive.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Enables Productivity
  • Helps Innovate
