What differentiates Looker from other similar products?

Google Looker has an intuitive interface to build dashboards, a full SaaS offering with horizontal and vertical scaling, and also a code based semantic model for reusability.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Semantic model and ease of building dashboards.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Report bursting is a little more cumbersome as we need to use a webhook for some of our use cases.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Work with a good implementation partner and take the Google Cloud Skills Boost training to get up to speed.

What differentiates Looker from other similar products?

Looker’s LookML modeling layer separates business logic from dashboard creation, ensuring standard metric definitions across client projects. Instead of copying logic into individual reports, our team maintains a single source of truth, allowing us to build consistent, scalable reporting environments for engineering workflows.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

In-database querying via Git version control lets us manage analytical metrics just like software code. This simplifies code reviews and prevents broken dashboards across teams while pushing execution directly to our underlying warehouse.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The initial learning curve for LookML is steep for non-developer analysts. Additionally, custom visual rendering can feel limited compared to dedicated visualization tools without writing custom JavaScript code.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Ensure your organization has data engineers capable of building and maintaining LookML. It is ideal for teams needing strict metric governance, but less suited for non-technical users expecting quick, self-service drag-and-drop report creation.
