Good for companies that want one source of truth

Likeliness to Recommend

9 /10

What differentiates Looker from other similar products?

Looker stands out because it focuses on keeping my data clean, consistent, and easy to trust. Instead of creating separate reports with their own logic, Looker lets me set the rules in one place so everyone sees the same numbers. It also pulls information directly from your database in real time, which means I am always looking at fresh data. This “single source of truth” approach is what makes it different from many other tools.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite thing about Looker is how consistent the data feels across all reports. Once the logic is set, everyone sees the same numbers, which makes discussions much easier. I also like that I can explore details without breaking anything just click and dig deeper. It saves time and removes a lot of back and forth guessing.

What do you dislike most about this product?

I dislike most about Looker is that some changes require help from someone who understands its modeling language. For simple users, this can slow things down when you just want to adjust a calculation or create a custom view.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

If you are thinking about using Looker, I would recommend making sure you have someone who can set up the initial data models properly. Once that part is done, the tool becomes much easier for everyone else to use. Start with a few core dashboards so your team gets used to how Looker works, and keep your data rules clear and consistent. It is a great choice if you want reliable numbers and a clean way for people to explore data without worrying about breaking anything.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Continually Improving Product
  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing

Powerful Data Insights with a Steep Learning Curve

Likeliness to Recommend

10 /10

What differentiates Looker from other similar products?

Looker stands out for its LookML semantic modeling layer, which centralizes business logic and ensures consistent metrics across all dashboards. Unlike traditional BI tools focused on visualizations, Looker emphasizes data governance, scalability, and integration with modern data warehouses like BigQuery and Snowflake, making it ideal for enterprise-grade analytics and embedded insights.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of Looker is its LookML modeling layer, which allows teams to define business metrics and data relationships in one governed place. This ensures consistent, reusable, and transparent analytics across the organization. It bridges the gap between data engineers and business users, enabling accurate, scalable, and collaborative decision-making.

What do you dislike most about this product?

What I dislike most about Looker is its steep learning curve and reliance on LookML coding, which can be challenging for non-technical users. Setting up models and optimizing queries requires data-engineering knowledge, and dashboard performance depends heavily on the underlying data warehouse. This can make initial setup and adoption slower compared to more drag-and-drop BI tools.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I recommend Looker for teams with a strong data foundation and a need for governed, scalable analytics. Invest time in learning LookML and building a solid data model upfront—it pays off with consistent metrics and reusable insights. Ensure your data warehouse is optimized for performance, and provide training for both technical and business users to fully leverage Looker’s capabilities.

  • Helps Innovate
