What is Snowflake?
Snowflake’s cloud data platform supports a multi-cloud strategy, including a cross-cloud approach to mix and match clouds as you see fit. Snowflake is available globally on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform. With a common and interchangeable code base, Snowflake delivers advantages such as global data replication, which means you can move your data to any cloud in any region, without having to re-code your applications or learn new skills.

What differentiates Snowflake from other similar products?
I think Snowflake is very powerful, it has a lot of capabilities and all the data is on the cloud. I strongly recommend it, you can create the datawarehouse architecture in different ways and test what is the best solution to store and integrate your data. Snowflake has a good and complete API documentation.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
I really loved that thanks to Snowflake, with the data team we could implement a DataWarehouse Architecture and connect data from different sources using Fivetran. And we really got excellent results, improving the queries performance, and creating more robust queries using views and tables. Also there exists Snowflake Connector for Python and that is really great if you need to implement a function.
What do you dislike most about this product?
It would be great that Snowflake Sales People being more trainned about specific uses and questions about using Snowflake.

The data platform that lets you focus on delivery

What differentiates Snowflake from other similar products?
Snowflake is significantly different in its concept of warehouses and the separation of compute from data. Instead of sizing your machine to do everything you need, you have many independent warehouses of different sizes of CPU and RAM which are used for different workloads. You make the warehouse suit the workload, and these can all run at the same time or independently, based on what people need to do. There's no need for a 'one size fits all' situation., Have a big warehouse for your infrequent but intensive loads, and a small one for your frequent activities like data ingestion.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The role-based security allows us to efficiently set up environments where people have access to some features or others, but all based on roles - as it should be - not an array of independent individual permissions. Also, the row-based security / data masking is excellent, and so too is data sharing.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The cost for enterprise features can be high if you aren't carefully monitoring your usage and sizing your warehouses appropriately.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Consider what you want to achieve, carefully. Be sure to break up your workloads into appropriately-sized warehouses. Set up warehouse monitors/alerts to help you track spending. Also, consider having two accounts - a standard one to hold your data and for data loading - at standard pricing - and an enterprise one that works on the data, with all the enterprise features at enterprise pricing. This way you're not paying enterprise pricing for the general data management. Additionally, take advantage of the built-in security features to manage data access right at the database level no matter if people connect via the GUI or an app.
