What differentiates Microsoft Purview from other similar products?

Microsoft Purview helps to manage and understand all of your data in one platform including all of its governance and compliance features, as well as being able to get full visibility on your data in each environment, meaning you know what the data is and the role play for accessing that data. Integration with Microsoft is another positive.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I think the data catalog and data lineage is what drew me to the platform initially. It makes so much easier to find the right data, track how data got into a particular state or system and allows better data governance, without having to chase the data and its origin story down.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Because the platform provides numerous complex functionalities, initial configuration setup can also require careful consideration, and users may need time to familiarize themselves with concepts like governance and the various features available.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I highly recommend Microsoft Purview for any organizations willing to improve the strategy of their data governance plan. I’d make sure you invest on defining governance plan and take business users at heart of the strategy.
