What differentiates HyperScale X Appliance from other similar products?

converged appliance using Commvault software

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

the fact that it runs Commvault

What do you dislike most about this product?

virtualization engine is not reliable, product is somewhat buggy, adds additional layer of linux know how into Commvault which is traditionally installed on Windows (Commserve is always windows, the rest kind of went along with this)

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I would only choose hyperscale if I cannot use Commvault with traditional windows servers. It provides the same benefits, a bit more redundancy, which is not guaranteed and if it is not guaranteed I guess you can call it best effort. product was at least in its earlier days buggy

File Explorer Granular Restore Individual files can be located and restored from backup media without the need for full system mounting and restore.

Virtual Machine Backup Automatically discovers and protects VMs as they come online, move, and change. Production VMs are replicated to a secondary data store.

Replication for Long Term Storage and Disaster Recovery Onsite backup data is replicated and stored to a public cloud (AWS, Azure). Can also include restore-to-cloud capabilities for Disaster Recovery as a Service.

Backup of Cloud Based Data In addition to targeting backups to the cloud, the solution also has the capability to back up primary data and services already in the cloud.

Integration With Storage Arrays Integrates with APIs from major storage vendors (NetApp, HP, Dell EMC) to leverage capabilities in these arrays such as data snapshots and replication.

Application Awareness Application consistent backup and granular restore for application data from core applications such as MS SQL, Oracle, MS Exchange, MS SharePoint.

Backup Monitoring and Reporting Backup and replication are continually monitored for status and effectiveness. Detailed reporting is available on successful and unsuccessful operations.

Physical Backup for Multiple Platforms Backs up data and system info for non-virtualized systems. Primarily Windows and Linux servers but also, potentially, AIX, Unix and others.

Backup Automation Solution automates backup, recovery and remediation tasks using RestAPI and CLI to integrate with 3rd party solutions, reduce cost and enforce standards.

Deduplication Implementation Deduplication of redundant data blocks is implemented by the solution. Deduplication can be at source, target, or globally (source and target).
