What differentiates AWS Systems Manager from other similar products?

It's cost efficiency as most of System Manager features are available at no additional cost and also it's full native AWS ecosystem integration

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I normally use Ansible to SSH into my instance via port 22. I can't do this on prod that's when i figured out AWS SSM where i do agentless access to my prod instances without requiring SSH and closing port 22 and not needing bastion host

What do you dislike most about this product?

I do face some performance issues when executing commands which sometimes impacts my workflows

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Don't try to implement everything at once. Start with Session Manager for secure instance access and Parameter Store for secrets management because these provide immediate value with minimal difficulties. Once comfortable, gradually add Patch Manager, Automation, and other advanced capabilities

Cost Efficiency: Many features are included at no additional charge for EC2, making it a highly cost effective option compared to separate third-party solutions.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

My favorite aspect of this product is that, there is no Additional Infrastructure Required– Fully managed by AWS, reducing overhead and allowing teams to focus on operations, not platform maintenance.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Based on my experience, what I dislike most about AWS is: 1. User Interface and Navigation: The UI can feel fragmented, with different features (e.g., Automation, Parameter Store, Patch Manager) spread across multiple sections. This can make it difficult to onboard new users or quickly locate specific functionality. 2, Pricing Visibility for Advanced Features: Some advanced capabilities (like Automation step costs or Parameter Store advanced tiers) are not always intuitive from a cost management perspective, potentially leading to unexpected charges if not carefully monitored.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

AWS Systems Manager is a powerful and scalable tool, but its value is best realized when implemented with a clear plan, good security practices, and a phased rollout. My recommendations for Someone Considering AWS Systems Manager: 1. Start with Clear Use Cases: Identify your core needs first, such as patch management, automation, inventory, or secure remote access, and focus on setting up those modules before exploring the full feature set. Systems Manager is modular, so you don’t need to implement everything at once. 2. Test in a Dev or sandbox environment first before rolling out widely, 3.
