eClinicalWorks Creates Open Interoperability Standards to Exchange Health Data Quickly

Research By: Jennifer Jones, Info-Tech Research Group

eClinicalWorks has developed an Open Interoperability standard (EOI) that leverages FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) to exchange health data. Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is a healthcare exchange data standard designed as an open, community-driven standard that draws from the most useful features of HL7. This data framework allows data to be read, written, and queried, providing flexibility to be integrated into a Personal Health Record (PHR) and the Electronic Health Records (EHR).

Our Take

FHIR is a simplified data standard that enables developers to access the healthcare data they need to build fast and modern web-based and mobile health solutions with standardized security and log-on protocols. With the EOI application developers are able to use a self-service portal to create an account with the EOI platform. Once approved, a developer can connect to other healthcare organizations and practices that are sharing their API access to the eClinicalWorks EHR. This advancement will allow for more flexibility and innovation for third-party application developers that want to work with clients that are using the eClinicalWorks EHR.
