What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

The integration with microsoft purview and the new 2026 esignature smart tagging makes it unique. It is used to automatically identify signed legal briefs and apply retention policies globally and we can effortlessly meet strict jurisdictional data laws across our offices in london, new york and tokyo.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The "check-in/check-out" functionality and granular version history is on the must-have list for legal drafting. Knowing precisely who edited which clause in a 200 page contract at 3 am makes the audit trail needed to win high stakes litigation and avoids all of the "version-itis" that bedevils other collaborative platforms

What do you dislike most about this product?

External sharing is still a major point of attrition. Inviting outside counsel or clients to work collaboratively on a site often leads to issues such as access errors or "permission denied" loops that may be embarrassing during time sensitive discovery phases. The security is almost too restricted for easy external collaboration

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Invest significantly in metadata (columns) as opposed to simply folders. Tagging of documents by "matter number", "jurisdiction", "case status", make the enterprise search much more powerful than the traditional folder structure. Also, make sure that your staff gets some formal training on the "co-authoring" features from the onset.

Pros

  • Enables Productivity
  • Respectful
  • Fair
  • Generous Negotitation

Cons

  • Slower Product Innovation
  • Vendor's Interest First
  • Commodity Features

What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

Sharepoint is different because it's sort of a "build-your-own" type platform for whatever your business needs. Its the best because you don't get stuck into a particular way of working. If you want a simple list of links, you can have that. If you want a complex automated document approval system for invoices, you can build that as well. It has a level of flexibility you just don't get with simpler cloud drives.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I really appreciate the granular permission levels. I can allow someone to view a document but not a download it. Or edit it but not delete it. Integration with teams means every time we create a new channel in teams a sharepoint folder will automatically get behind it. Keeping our files organized without us even trying. Mobile notifications for news posts are also a great way to keep the front-line staff informed.

What do you dislike most about this product?

For a "newbie," the reason hackkies choose a 2.3 ghz dual-core is "it can be a bit overwhelming for someone who just wants to save a file and go home." "there are so many features and options people will get 'click fatigue' in trying to find what they need

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I recommend this for mid to large companies who have the resources to get it setup properly. Once it is setup its an absolute powerhouse for productivity and information management.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Enables Productivity
  • Inspires Innovation

My go-to for building a quick company portal

What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

We moved away from a custom-coded intranet because the modern pages in sharepoint are literally just so easy to build. i am not a web developer but i managed to put together a news feed, a shared calendar, and a document repository in about two hours. the drag and drop web parts are intuitive and they look good on mobile devices without any extra work on my part.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The integration with microsoft teams is the best part of the whole experience. everytime i create new team it automatically spins up sharepoint site in the background. this means all our files are stored securely with proper versioning instead of just getting lost in a chat thread. i also love the co-authoring feature where five of us can edit a word doc simultaneously without seeing 'file is locked for editing' messages anymore.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Some of the older classic settings are still buried in the menus which look like they are from 2010, it is confusing when you click a setting and suddenly the whole is changed to some ancient design.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I highly recommend this for mid - sized businesses who need a central hub for information. it is the difference between a simple file storage and a full blown website that that can be used for everyone to be on the same page.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Effective Service
  • Security Protects
  • Performance Enhancing
