The best way to get corporate data out there

What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

It is better than using an on premise file server because you dont need to buy a vpn to get your work done. Sharepoint is the best because it is built on top of azure security so i know our data is safe from hackers. The difference is that it offers "conditional access" so we can make it so people can only login from devices that the company manages its a massive win for our security posture.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I really like it how easy it is to create an "extranet" site for our partners - we can give them access to some documents while completely hiding the rest of our company data. Search feature is also very fast once you get used to using filters to narrow things down. "automatic backup" feature has saved us a few close calls when some employee accidentally deleted a whole folder.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It requires a decent amount of administrative oversight. You can't just set it and forget it, or it quickly will turn into a digital "junk drawer," where nobody will be able to find anything.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

This is industry standard for a reason. If you do care about security and reliability more than anything else and are considering a solution for your corporate environment, sharepoint is the tool you need.

Pros

  • Reliable
  • Performance Enhancing
  • Unique Features

What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

What makes this different is the "lists" feature which is basically a powerful database installed in your file storage. Sharepoint is the best for us because we use those lists to keep track of everything from office equipment to employee vacation days. It is way more powerful than a simple spreadsheet because we can add "logic" to it, like send an email when a new item is added or a deadline is approaching.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

Im sold on the "power automate" integration. We have created a simple flow that takes a file from a sharepoint folder and automatically posts a summary of it to our slack channel. I'm fond of the easy options for branding our sites to match our different sub-brands. It keeps things looking professional and tidy without us having to do any manual coding or design work. Sometimes, the "version history" takes

up a lot of storage space if you're not careful in your settings. You have to check your site limits to prevent yourself from being charged extra.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I highly recommend this for operations teams wanting to automate their manual processes. This is a "low code" dream for anyone wanting to build digital tools for their office.

Pros

  • Helps Innovate
  • Effective Service
  • Inspires Innovation

Iron clad compliance for international litigation.

What differentiates Microsoft SharePoint from other similar products?

The integration with microsoft purview and the new 2026 esignature smart tagging makes it unique. It is used to automatically identify signed legal briefs and apply retention policies globally and we can effortlessly meet strict jurisdictional data laws across our offices in london, new york and tokyo.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The "check-in/check-out" functionality and granular version history is on the must-have list for legal drafting. Knowing precisely who edited which clause in a 200 page contract at 3 am makes the audit trail needed to win high stakes litigation and avoids all of the "version-itis" that bedevils other collaborative platforms

What do you dislike most about this product?

External sharing is still a major point of attrition. Inviting outside counsel or clients to work collaboratively on a site often leads to issues such as access errors or "permission denied" loops that may be embarrassing during time sensitive discovery phases. The security is almost too restricted for easy external collaboration

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Invest significantly in metadata (columns) as opposed to simply folders. Tagging of documents by "matter number", "jurisdiction", "case status", make the enterprise search much more powerful than the traditional folder structure. Also, make sure that your staff gets some formal training on the "co-authoring" features from the onset.

Pros

  • Enables Productivity
  • Respectful
  • Fair
  • Generous Negotitation

Cons

  • Slower Product Innovation
  • Vendor's Interest First
  • Commodity Features
