What differentiates Veeam Data Platform from other similar products?

Ransomware doesn’t bother me much like it used to, now that our backups are actually locked down tight. Restores used to be painfully slow, but these days they’re fast enough that they don’t disrupt our workflow at all. Plus, the system automatically shifts older data to cheaper storage, which is a nice bonus for our budget.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I’m an embedded software dev over at Ford, so I bounce between quite a few different systems daily. Veeam’s been handling our VMware and Proxmox mix surprisingly well. The immutable Linux repos are a lifesaver; even if someone manages to break in, they can’t mess with the backups.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Setting up proxies is one of those tasks that just gets difficult with every stage. You're forever resizing them as usage changes, and it’s rarely obvious what size actually makes sense. The error messages aren’t much help either. I spent a good three hours last week sifting through logs just to trace a failure back to a network timeout.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Don’t wait too long to figure out your proxy sizing, if you put it off, you’ll be stuck tweaking it constantly down the road. One thing I’d strongly suggest, enable immutable storage right from the start. Trying to turn it on later is a huge headache. Also, make sure at least one person on your team really knows the ins and outs of the architecture.

‎Nothing. I do not dislike anything about Veeam Data Platform, as it effectively meets all my backup and availability needs.

‎I recommend Veeam for reliable backup across virtual, physical, and cloud environments. One should take advantage of its robust backup and replication features to ensure business continuity.

It ensures our critical mortgage records cannot be deleted or tampered with.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

When a critical database server running our LOS goes down, I can spin up the VM instantly. The security and compliance analyzer reports are excellent.

What do you dislike most about this product?

The licensing structure across various on-premise, cloud, and hybrid environments can get kind of complex.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Buy this for the resilience, not just the backup. Focus heavily on setting up the immutable repositories and the automatic testing. It turns the backup process from a compliance chore into a proven, tested disaster recovery shield.
