What differentiates Microsoft Power BI from other similar products?

It supports all Microsoft data sources in their best way to connect and even many 3rd party data connectors are available. ETL in query editor is also quite helpful and powerful when brining data from Source directly. Query Folding is also very useful and good feature. DAX also makes it powerful as calculating metrics at view time makes it real time and also very much customizable.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

PowerBI App, is very good as it separates it from data(PBIX file) and along with RLS/OLS, we can manage data security and also allow different business users to access data and have self reporting without worries. PowerBI app is used on web so business users don't need any software and high end configuration, also its easy to use create reports once datasets are made.

What do you dislike most about this product?

It consumes a lot of resources. it should have cancel button when a large measure some process get stuck, we have to use Task Manager all the time. It is also not available on Mac, where it can work faster and better. There are many small features that can be added which will save a lot of time like setting default date format for dataset, but they take a lot of time to implement a feature on PowerBI Idea page.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Start small and also learn DAX form starting and create a lot of measures, they help a lot and also reduce load on backend DB and give much more freedom to business users to play with data, rather than hard coding everything in SQL queries.

It is an amazing software which provides a user-friendly GUI with the drag-and-drop capability for generating the report. Unlike other BI tools like Tableau, you can do it without any knowledge of computer programming. Power BI allows the use of unstructured data, modern rendering techniques and integration effortlessly on various platforms.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

It enables the users to consolidate data from multiple sources, make interactive dashboards, evaluate data, create informative reports and share it with other users.It is a cloud-based platform used to consolidate data from varied sources into a single data set. These data sets are used for data visualization, evaluation, and analysis by making sharable reports, dashboards, and apps. Microsoft offers three types of Power BI platforms i.e. Power BI Desktop (a desktop application), Power BI Service (SaaS i.e., Software as a Service) and Power BI Mobile (for iOS and Android devices).

What do you dislike most about this product?

There is nothing which I dislike about Power BI. It is an awesome platform. It can be deployed both on-premise and on-cloud. It can also import data from local databases/data sources, cloud-based data sources, big data sources, simple Excel files, and other hybrid sources. Thus, Power BI, a leader amongst a lot of other BI tools proves to be an efficient and user-friendly tool for data analysis.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

I would recommend all to use this software as with Power BI you can collaborate quickly within your organization when you’re on the go. It delivers you data on one easy screen to meet both your self-service and organizational data analytics needs.You can also integrate your existing applications like Salesforce, Dynamics and Google Analytics with Microsoft Power BI. These can be embedded to help you visualize data in an interactive and intuitive way so you can consume quickly and delve deeper into the data with a targeted approach.
