The biggest differentiator of OneDrive for Business is its role as part of the broader Microsoft 365 platform. If an organization already relies on Teams, Office apps, SharePoint, and Microsoft identity management, OneDrive becomes more than cloud storage—it acts as the central file layer for collaboration, security, governance, and AI-powered productivity.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I don't have personal preferences, so I don't have a favorite aspect. If I were highlighting the feature that many organizations find most valuable, it would be the tight integration between Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft SharePoint.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Whether these are significant issues depends on the organization's size and how heavily it uses Microsoft 365. For companies already standardized on Microsoft's tools, the benefits often outweigh the complexity; for teams seeking a simpler standalone file-sharing solution, alternatives may feel more straightforward.

Microsoft OneDrive for Business (now often called OneDrive for work or school) is fundamentally a business content management and collaboration platform rather than just a cloud storage service. What sets it apart from competitors such as Google Drive, Dropbox Business, Box, or Egnyte is its deep integration with the Microsoft ecosystem. Key differentiators 1. Native integration with Microsoft 365 OneDrive is tightly connected to: Microsoft Teams SharePoint Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft PowerPoint Files stored in OneDrive .

What differentiates Microsoft OneDrive for Business from other similar products?

It has less functionality than Google Drive by a long shot. It feels clunkier, less organized, hard to reorganize (dragging and dropping as well). I do not believe it differentiates itself in any good way.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

It connects to Outlook and Teams well, and that's what we use at work. That's about it!

What do you dislike most about this product?

SO SLOW. When deleting, moving, or renaming things. And sometimes the sync doesn't work for the full business, and when there are sync issues, it brings back empty files and folders that had previously been deleted or reorganized. So it's constantly making a mess that we have to search for. I wish there was an easier way to drag and drop folders and files to new spots. And I wish there was a way to delete a full folder. You have to delete everything inside of a folder first. And in our use case, I adopted this role from someone else, so I had a lot of cleaning up to do. I had to delete folders inside of folders inside of folders for days.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Really think about what you need this for. Yes, we use Outlook and Teams at work, but honestly using Google Drive or something else would feel less painful. It's just too unreliable and frustrating. I wish we could rely on OneDrive. So if you just need a space to hold and share documents, I would look elsewhere!
