Easy to use, but beware

What differentiates Fivetran from other similar products?

Fivetran is almost unbelievably easy to use. It supports a wide array of connectors--the ones you're likeliest to need--and it allows for almost immediate ingestion. With this speed and ease of use comes a certain amount of risk, though.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

I am still sometimes surprised by how easy Fivetran makes it to bring in certain kinds of data. Free initial syncs (and re-syncs) are also very useful for certain data profiling and usability exercises..

What do you dislike most about this product?

Make no mistake--Fivetran is expensive. Its pricing model is transparent, but end users should not be seduced into thinking they can bring in endless amounts of data without consequence. Fivetran requires a smallish (but real) amount of administrative overhead to ensure that it is used conscientiously.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

Pay attention to initial syncs, cost estimations, etc. Understand the value of the data you're bringing in well enough to weigh it against the cost of syncing it regularly. Also make sure you understand that the cost to sync is not limited to Fivetran itself. I am thinking of Snowflake users in particular, for whom Fivetran warehouse usage may also represent a significant cost.
