What differentiates Ellucian PowerCampus from other similar products?

Unlike other student information systems, Ellucian PowerCampus is aimed at small to mid-sized institutions and is specifically tailored and delivered in a cost effective, modular and user friendly approach that balances core academic, administrative and financial operations without having the complexity of larger systems such as Banner or PeopleSoft. It is user-friendly and therefore easy to adopt by the staff and students, and its modular design enables schools to install only the features they require.

What is your favorite aspect of this product?

The ease of use of Ellucian PowerCampus is one of the attributes that users tend to mention. Its user-friendly interface makes the faculty and staff realise how easy it is to use and save on training. To take an example, one user replied, I liked the fact that you can add features, make it meet the requirements of the institution. I have been employed to a small college and we do not need all the additional features that the big colleges have implemented. Another user, also, added that, he could work with the application simply.

What do you dislike most about this product?

Outdated user interface and low customization opportunity are the most substantial weaknesses of Ellucian PowerCampus. Users often complain that the system looks like it was written in 1980s and is not as modern and flexible as more modern systems. The reporting tools of the system also usually demand a high level of technical skills to be customized, which is a limitation to those institutions that lack dedicated IT teams. Such shortcomings will cause delays in efficiency and user experience as institutions look forward to more responsive and user-friendly solutions.

What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?

In the case of Ellucian PowerCampus, it is a good solution to small to mid-sized institutions that need a student information system that is both affordable and easy to use. It has a simple interface, is designed in a modular format and can be affordable to institutions with modest IT resources. Note though that some users perceive the user interface of the system as being outdated and its reporting might demand techno savvy in order to tailor it. Furthermore, Ellucian has declared that PowerCampus will go into maintenance mode, thus will no longer be updated or have new features added to it.
