Integrates with any external data sources into a single view allowing data access and updating from any source
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
Has the simpler integrations through the API which makes it easy to connect different data sources externally and, has good user interfaces for accessing data

I find it hard to deploy the solution especially when you are an intermediate as the guidelines are not straightforward

What differentiates Board from other similar products?
The important difference is Board’s unified data model. In many BI platforms, data is pulled from multiple sources and modeled separately for reporting purposes. This can sometimes create inconsistencies between different reports or versions of the “truth.” And Compared to other tools in the market, Board is positioned more as an Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) platform rather than just a BI tool.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The aspect I find compelling is how it reduces the constant friction between Excel and enterprise systems. Even in well-designed finance teams, Excel often ends up being the “real analysis layer” because it’s flexible. And if there’s one “favorite” aspect, it’s this balance: it’s structured enough for enterprise finance, but flexible enough to still think like an analyst.
What do you dislike most about this product?
The challenge is the learning curve because there the interface sometimes feels Excel-like, the underlying modeling approach is more rigid and structured than a typical spreadsheet mindset and there also performance can become noticeable depending on how the model is built.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
The important recommendation is to invest heavily in the design phase. The quality of your outcome in Board depends a lot on how well the data model is structured upfront. Things like dimensional design, hierarchy definitions, and rule consistency are not details you fix later–they shape everything downstream. And it’s also worth involving finance users early, not just technical teams.
