Ohio Healthcare Provider Accelerates Rollout of Allscripts FollowMyHealth Telemedicine App
Grand Lake Health System (GLHS), located in St. Mary’s, Ohio, had telehealth on its 2020 application roadmap. And then the COVID-19 pandemic hit. GLHS wanted a telemedicine system that easily integrates clinical and financial aspects of care delivery and chose Allscripts’ telemedicine solution called FollowMyHealth.
Allscripts FollowMyHealth met the exact requirements of GLHS. Lori Miller, Chief of Information Services, noted:
“…rather than cancelling non-urgent visits, our providers were asking patients if they would be willing to participate in a video visit from their home. We have multiple providers in multiple practices using this technology. Patients are pleased with this alternative and have been very receptive to this within a very short period of time.”
Early outcomes of the implementation indicate the success of the program. The success of the rollout was attributed to the following factors:
- GLHS’ EHR analysts worked hand-in-hand with the Allscripts FollowMyHealth support team on the configuration and implementation of the telehealth solution, and they were able to launch the system in two days.
- Existing patient data from Allscripts Sunrise EHR was integrated into FollowMyHealth for providers to easily reference.
- FollowMyHealth’s patient portal was already in use by GLHS, and both patients and providers benefited from the addition of the telehealth application.

Our Take
COVID-19 has forced healthcare IT leaders to prioritize essential projects that were on their technology roadmap. Telemedicine is positively altering healthcare delivery – the convenience of care is ideal for non-acute patients who do not require in-person visits.
