France-Based Cloud Provider OVH Expanding Operations in Canada

New CEO Michel Paulin said in an interview with IT World Canada that OVH will expand resources and leadership in Montreal to launch additional public cloud services, API access, new artificial intelligence (AI) services, and a newly developed Partner program.

"We can find all the skills and talent in Montreal. That’s why we decided to create this worldwide hub in Canada,” said Paulin.

OVH operates six data centers in Quebec, competing with other Canadian cloud providers as well as “hyperscale” public cloud providers such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. The expansion plans will add additional capabilities to OVH's existing offerings, which include private cloud, public cloud, and dedicated hosting.

By mid-summer, OVH public cloud offerings in Canada will be available from value-added resellers, managed service providers, and integrators. OVH has also stated that a general release of Managed Kubernetes Service will be available from Canada in the second quarter of 2019.

Our Take

The OVH strategy aligns with a broader hybrid-cloud approach trend in the industry, providing value to services for enterprise customers migrating existing infrastructure, scaling cloud applications, or operating non-cloud platforms on dedicated platforms. The additional focus in Canada will provide customers with more public-cloud choice, particularly those enterprises supporting global infrastructure services spanning North America and Europe.
