It has all the best instructor features of the big LMS companies for a fraction of the price. The Sakai community. Open Source/Customization opportunities. Developers are PASSIONATE about Sakai. The Sakai Community drives the features and changes, NOT profits.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The Sakai Community is an incredible aspect of Sakai that doesn't get translated in the "features" of the product. The Schools and businesses that use Sakai love Sakai, and they are open to sharing, collaborating, and communicating.
What do you dislike most about this product?
Shrinking market share. This is not because of cost, a lack of features, or dissatisfaction with the quality of Sakai. The platform is solid, solid, solid.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
If you want to control your own destiny, Sakai gives you complete flexibility to customize the experience in so many ways.

Sakai has always been driven by academic institutions and those that support academia. It is a true open source product backed by an amazing community of people dedicated to the cause of enhancing academic solutions and improving student progress.
What is your favorite aspect of this product?
The community behind Sakai is amazing. People that really want to see it succeed and make change where needed.
What do you dislike most about this product?
An a software engineer who worked on the product for about 15 years, there is a bit of legacy code and technical debt in some of the original code, but this is gradually being improved, which is precisely where the product should be headed.
What recommendations would you give to someone considering this product?
Give Sakai a go and try out all of the functionality. It is a fantastic product and there are a number of companies able to help you implement and customise it as you need.
